FAQ

Mary O'Malley, Hearthound Irish Wolfhounds

Involvement in the breed:
I brought home my first Irish Wolfhound in 1997 and became addicted to the breed in short order. Over the years we have participated in conformation, obedience, coursing, and therapy work at a local nursing home. I currently share my home with three IWs, one of whom is a rescue, plus one cat, one African Grey parrot, and six houserabbits. Thus far it has been a peaceable kingdom, though sometimes chaotic.

I am a member of the national club and am active in my regional club, attending many local events such as parades and festivals, and have served on the regional club's Board and numerous committees over the years. I also joined the Irish Wolfhound Foundation shortly after it was formed and now serve as its Secretary, and am also on the Board of Directors of the "friends of" our local animal shelter, where I volunteer several days a week.

Since I first fell in love with the breed, I have taken every opportunity to learn more about these magnificent creatures, their history, desired conformation, and health issues. It's endlessly fascinating to me. I consider myself an informed wolfhound owner, but there is always more to learn! I am happy to share what I do know with potential owners and those newly addicted to the breed. I simply cannot imagine life without a Wolfhound in it.
