Donna and David Smith - Taliesin Irish Wolfhounds
Involvement in the breed:
David and I have had Irish Wolfhounds for 18 years now. What started out as a compromise breed between the two of us has turned into a major obsession. We started with one and quickly one became three, then three led to 5
Currently we live with 11 hounds and one Wire Haired Pointing Griffon that thinks she a Wolfhound. Our first Wolfhound was spoiled rotten and endlessly patient with us as we learned the ropes of rearing and showing a giant breed. She was our first child and she also turned out to be an Epileptic. She taught us the invaluable lesson of seeking out breeders that place a high priority on the health of the breed. Both David and I are members of the national club. We are however, deeply committed to our local regional club The Irish Wolfhound Association of the Delaware Valley. I have been past VP and President of the IWADV and I now serve as a board member and the Education chair. I am also a new member of the Central New Jersey Hound Association. We have had hounds out to parades, visiting elementary schools, manning educational booths. One of our hounds even appeared in the Lockport City Ballet School's performance of "The Nutcracker" for many years. We enjoy showing our hounds. We also love coursing the hounds, when time allows us. Most of all there is no other breed of dog that warms our souls as like an Irish Wolfhound. They are intelligent and loyal, with a bit of independent thinking and a sense of humor thrown in.
