FAQ

Lesa Newbitt, Bereton Irish Wolfhounds

Involvement in the breed:
After waiting 26 years, I obtained my first Irish wolfhound in 1993, through a local breeder who was listed in Dog World Magazine classified ads. I was simply looking for a good pet and companion and had no intention of showing, at that time.

In the 16 yrs. I have been active with this magnificent breed I have met a lot of wonderful people and hounds throughout the U.S., Canada, Ireland, Great Britain, and Wales.

I have earned confirmation championships and CGC's on my hounds. I am hoping to attend Therapy Dog classes and try for a TDI certification, in 2009. We have just started to participate in LGRA straight racing, this past year, and are really enjoying it.

I enjoy spending time with my hounds, along with showing in confirmation. I try to attend as many Specialty shows as possible because they are such wonderful opportunities to expand one's knowledge and to learn from the more experienced breeders and judges.

I am active in a local obedience club (Metro All Breed Obedience Club, MABOC) in Forth Worth, and I'm also the editor for the North Texas Irish Wolfhound Club's newsletter. We attend the Irish Festivals to help educate those interested in learning about our breed. I also take an active interest in our local club's IW Rescue and help whenever possible.
